Claire Sawford – Director / Salon Owner
I have over 25 years experience in the industry and started as an apprentice in a large Huntingdon salon, Berkleys For Hair, then whilst travelling took my scissors with me and styled Hong Kong, Asia and India. On return to the UK, I trained with award winning celebrity hairdresser Lee Stafford and Vidal Sassoons world class hairdresser and Creative Director Stacey Broughton. I’ve become part of the L’Oreal Professionel Team, participating in the ‘Creative Colour And Advanced Cutting Revolution’ training course with the inspirational Carolyn Newman; Charles Worthington’s Colour Director and L’Oreal Ambassador.
I went on to manage the New Image salon in Brampton (Cambs), where I continued to evolve in my profession, achieved Assessor Status and now own the salon – Utopia Hair Bar and Utopia Beauty Bar, so work very closely with the local colleges to help other bright new stylists shine like the very hair they nurture! And now the salon has won Hunts Post’s ‘New Business Of The Year Award’ for 2017!
I have a passion for creativity and have been told my unique client experience is second to none. Passing down that knowledge and supporting the aspirations and education of my team is a commitment held very close to my heart, as is having a long standing relationship with all of my clients and making your hair look it’s best for any occasion!
Meet the rest of my amazing, talented, award winning Utopia Hair Bar team and Utopia Beauty Bar team!:
I joined and trained at New Image 6 years ago and have an NVQ 2 & 3 experience and now love working at Utopia Hair Bar! I became a hairdresser because it’s what I’ve always wanted to do ever since I was child and my work ethic is ‘The only way to do great work is to love what you do and do what you love!’ – I am in love with my craft and so always keep up-to-date with the latest techniques with L’Oreal Professionnel Academy! The reward of seeing my client smile, knowing I’ve made you feel good about yourself, is something I strive for with every client, every day. After all, life isn’t perfect but your hair can be!
I enjoy styling both men and women’s hair. My particular favourite is creating an image change incorporating both cut and colour. I like to bring celebrity inspired styles into the salon, creating a wearable and maintainable style for my clients. I’m a naturally creative person, have training in media/theatrical hair & make up and also provide make-up and nail services with the Utopia Beauty Bar team and for our Bridal & Prom service!
I’m excited to continue my career and development alongside Claire with Utopia Hair Bar and the team I feel so very fortunate to work with.
I love to excel in my ability to mould and shape hair using well-honed setting and blow drying techniques, having been part of Vidal Sassoons revolution with the original Mary Quant ‘Wash and Wear’ style, which changed hairdressing forever! It has become a huge part of the fashion industry and I’ve been devoted to evolving my craft ever since.
I’ve passed my experience and knowledge down to a multitude of apprentices and nurtured 3 nieces into the profession. My client base is loyal and I’m conscientious with each one, so I’m looking forward to continuing as part of the transition from New Image to Utopia Hair Bar on my semi-retired journey!
I have 20 years of salon experience and originally trained at John Oliver in Cambridge. I’ve returned to hairdressing from a short family orientated break and I’m very excited to be part of team Utopia Hair Bar! I’ve refreshed and improved my qualification level to NVQ3 in the profession I love, winning the final creative competition with ‘Advanced Hair Up Innovation’. I have a passion for bespoke colouring, strive to offer an excellent client service and hope to pursue the Assessor Qualification in due course at Utopia Hair Bar. I also look forward to a new and exciting career path as part of the Utopia Beauty Bar team as a make-up artist and as part of our Bridal & Prom service!
I enjoy exploring my artistic flair through hair design as a qualified NVQ level 3 hair stylist. I strive to create the perfect hair styles for both men and women and colour your hair to compliment your skin tone, personality and needs. There’s nothing I enjoy more than giving clients the unique Utopia Hair Bar experience, so you leave with your new found confidence. I am committed to furthering my education and experience within the industry and feel privileged to be part of the Utopia Hair Bar Team.
I started in January 2016 as a Utopia Hair Bar apprentice. I love fashion, hair and makeup and keep up with the latest trends and looks. In the past I completed a GCSE catering course, specialising in baking and creative cake decoration, which is now more of a hobby as I decided my artistic talent and passion leans more towards hairdressing and now I’ve completed NVQ level 2 & 3 qualification in just that! In the future I’d also like to do a course in nail art. I’m generally a serene, happy team member and easily balance my general salon duties as an apprentice with in-salon training and look forward to advancing my skills and qualifications even more as part of Utopia Hair Bars excellent employee development scheme.
After 30 years of an office based career, I’ve finally followed my dream to become a hairstylist. I joined the Utopia Hair Bar team 18 months ago as a junior whilst completing my VRQ level 2 in ladies hairdressing. I was then offered an apprenticeship in the salon and I’ve also completed my NVQ Level 3 in ladies hairdressing and have covered men’s barbering. I was recently awarded the ‘Career Change Apprentice of the Year’ Award from Peterborough Regional College and enjoyed a fabulous evening at Peterborough Cathedral for the presentation. I particularly enjoy designing Bridal, Wedding Guest and Prom hairstyles as part of our bespoke Bridal & Prom service and love welcoming new clients into the salon.
I’ve recently left Longsands Sixth Form after completing A levels in Photography, Media, Graphics and Sociology and have now started with University of Cambridge’s School of Art, studying BA Honours in Photography.
I’ve worked in the salon as a Saturday Assistant for the last 4 years and have been told I’m an asset to the team.
I strive to be fresh, helpful, vibrant and I’m happy carrying out general salon duties and I am usually the first face you’ll meet at our reception desk on a Saturday. I’m always willing to assist our stylists in a professional and efficient way and I’m caring, approachable and well loved by colleagues and clients alike.
I’ve really enjoyed using my photography skills and media knowledge for Utopia Hair Bar’s transition into the world of social media.
