The government is yet to establish clear guidelines for hair salons, however industry experts are providing their own advice on steps they feel salon owners, members of staff and the customers themselves should be following when salons do eventually open for business.
The Hair & Beauty industry is a high-risk category, which is probably why hair salons are one of the businesses which will be opening later in comparison to other industries. We are a very hygienic industry anyway and already follow strict hygiene rules for the protection of our customers and staff.
What to expect on your Utopia salon journey:
Over the next few weeks we will be rearranging the salon to observe social distancing, setting up a sanitation point on entry, Perspex screen at face to face reception and admission to the salon will be by appointment only. Communication regarding appointments will be made via telephone or email only. Entry to the salon to arrange appointments will not be permitted.
There will be no waiting area, so you will be asked to arrive at your designated time, alone and wait outside until called in. Please do not bring coats, as the cloakroom will be closed and personal belongings should be kept to a minimum. Your temperature will be taken on arrival and recorded to assist track and trace. All staff scheduled to work will be temperature checked before their shift. You will also be emailed a short consultation form prior to your appointment. More details to follow.
Sadly we can’t offer you our usual refreshments, however a team member will offer you water in a disposable cup once you are in your stylists chair. There will be no magazines or reading materials.
The appointment system will be run so we can schedule our clients in chronological order from those whose appointments cancelled from the date of our closure, to ensure the fairest rebooking system.
Social distancing is paramount in keeping us all safe, so limited client numbers in salon and sanitation after each client will slow our service rate down. Therefore we aim to provide as many clients as possible with cuts in our first week back. Colours will follow. More details to follow.
You will be provided with a disposable mask, gown, neck cape and towel. Your stylist will wear PPE which will be changed after each client.
There will be a COVID19 PPE charge of £5 to cover this. We are hopeful you all understand and embrace the need for this to ensure effective prevention of contamination.
We will have retail products available to take home for your after-care, but we ask you not to touch any products in the salon and ask your stylist for details. On purchase, the products will be sanitised, picked and packed for you.
We also request card payments where possible, cash tips will still be accepted in the teams touch free tins as before.
Whilst all these procedures and protocols seem regimented, they are designed for your safety and the safety of Team Utopia under guidelines set out for our industry. (Government Guidelines to be confirmed).
We are looking forward to getting back into Utopia and styling your lockdown locks! We have missed you and we are fairly sure you’ve missed us! We are still the same friendly, professional team, just with a new way of salon life we will all become familiar with.
Thank you for reading and we will contact you all in due course.
