Quality not just quantity.

Thinning hair

It’s not unusual to lose 50 to 100 hairs per day. Any more than this could mean you’re shedding more than you should, and is usually due to lifestyle, genetics, hormonal changes or a medical condition but typically happens gradually, which means you have time to figure out  the causes and the best treatment measures.

If you’re experiencing hair loss avoid over use of colour treatments, perms, relaxers and even over harsh extreme-hold hair sprays and gels and wearing tight hairstyles. Whether you’re wearing an up-do or pulling your hair up in a ponytail for working out or to sleep in on a regular basis, this can cause tension on your hair and break it from the follicles, causing patchiness over time.

Nutrition is essential to hair and follicle health so ensure you’re taking enough iron, folic acid, biotin (although not with B5) omega fatty acids and other minerals in your diet.

Many medical or hereditary conditions can affect hair growth or hair loss if they affect your hormones, (for instance is you’ve recently had a baby, stopped taking birth control pills, or have started going through perimenopause). Cortisol is a stress hormone which can inhibit hair growth, so stress relieving therapies such as massage, meditation and yoga will help.

What can we at Utopia Hair Bar do to help?

Scalp massage stimulates the blood circulation to the skin and can stimulate follicles and hair growth especially when combining with essential oils such as Lavender, Thyme and Rosemary are known for their therapeutic benefits (always do a patch skin test first).

Using anti-thinning shampoos such as Loreal’s Volumetry range provide volume for your hair, so it looks thicker and also contains some of the essential vitamins and amino acids we mentioned above, to promote a healthier scalp.

NB Utopia Hair Bar can alert you to any thinning hair and recommend our treatments and home care range for clients with those kind of hair requirements,  however we’re not medical experts and if you have experienced significant hair loss, it could be due to a medical condition such as an autoimmune, hormonal or inflammatory condition, or be due to a skin disorder/infection or underlying nutritional deficiency. In which case you will need to seek advice from a medical professional to investigate and for further treatment for that condition, or be referred for specialist hair loss treatment as this is beyond our expertise.
